bladder megalithiasis

An 88-year-old man was hospitalized with the chief complaints of lower abdominal pain and irritative bladder symptoms. A plain radiograph of the abdomen showed a giant opaque calculus in the bladder (8.5 3 6 cm). Cystolithotomy and enucleation of a large prostate adenoma were performed. The extirpated stone weighed 410 g. The stone had several compartments of stratified lamellae composed of uric acid and calcium oxalate monohydrate.

Giant bladder stones are rare in modern urologic practice because of technological advancements and the availability of health services.
